Elgin, Illinois - located one hour outside of Chicago, is home to a community of hardworking individuals.  This community is comprised of steel workers farmers, people who have endured the elements and understand the land on which they live.  The proposed design of a community market-place is meant to serve this community as well as pay tribute to the land where it sits and the material that is so familiar to the area - steel.  The building facade is meant to intrigue passers-by who will first encounter the building at high-speeds on the highway.  As the potential market-goer passes the building the form accelerates with the driver and the metal facade opens up to reflect the beauty of the natural surrounding landscape.  The form emerges from the land and creates a space to highlight the goods and services that this area has to offer.
